3 hours; 3 creditsThe relationship between animals and humans explored in a range of literary texts with animal narrators and protagonists. Texts from a variety of genres and cultures, such as ancient Greece and Rome, modern Europe and North America, Meiji Japan, and Native America. Themes include: identity; communication and language; love and sexuality; human exceptionalism. (Not open to students who have completed Core Curriculum 3112.) 2017-2018 and 2018-2019:Satisfies Pathways College Option requirement.Prerequisite: English 1010 or permission of the department and junior standing.
