4 hours; 3 credits Consideration of the masterworks of a number of major silent and sound film comedians and filmmakers. Lectures and class discussions consider such matters as the serious intent of comedy; the connections between comic form and content; the creation and repetition of the personae of major comedians; erotic, aggressive, and infantile dimensions of the comic sensibility.
