3 hours lecture, 4 hours laboratory; 5 creditsAtomic structure. Symmetry and Group Theory. Molecular orbitals. Coordination chemistry. Organometallic chemistry. Elements of catalysis and bioinorganic chemistry. Solid-state materials. Laboratory emphasizes the synthesis, purification and characterization of coordination, organometallic, main group, solid state, and bioinorganic compounds. (Not open to students enrolled in or who have completed Chemistry 4761).Prerequisite or corequisite: Chemistry 4600 [60.1] or 4610 [61]; Chemistry 2700 [35] is strongly recommended.
